BRIEF HISTORY OF FOUNDATION
The "Latin American Motorcycle Association, (L.A.M.A), was founded in the City of Chicago, state of Illinois USA in the year of 1977, exactly in the surroundings of the Humboldt Park, for a group of Puerto Ricans bikers, most of them had emigrated to the United States as kids with their parents l, headed by Mr. Mario Nieves, the current president. L.A.M.A doesn't distinguish among races, religious beliefs, political affiliation, and neither ideology. In their beginnings L.A.M.A looked for things among other to change the perception of how the community saw the Motorcyclists, classified until that time like bad and rash people's bands. L.A.M.A began then to lend Services to the Community, they were focused in how to help to its community and in very little time the respect and the admiration were won of all.
In those first years L.AM.A participated together with Policemen, firemen and town in general in many activities that were generated in the community, L.A.M.A in many occasions intermediated in many different conflicts generated in the community, and step by step they were winning a space in the Latin-American community , they made big donations of toys for children of families without economic resources, and it was great to see Policemen, Firemen and other participants with ethnic different origins supported all together on extremely cold low temperatures.
L.A.M.A at the present time affiliates more than 20'000 associates around world, and it has been able to give a radical turn in the perception the world has on Motorcyclist, every year in Christmas-day L.AM.A distributes among the children of the community thousands of toys. There is more than 30 years of history since L.A.M.A was founded, and serious endless to speak of the whole work developed during these.
At the present time L.A.M.A is not only present in Latin American Countries, as a result of their popularity, and the prestige won during time L.A.M.A already extends on part of Europe, and it continues growing every year. The passion for biking, traveling, to know people and to create new knots of fraternity among the different nations has transformed into the primordial link of this chain. L.A.M.A at the present time has Chapters in: Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Uruguay, Italy, Germany, Australia, Canada, Brazil, France, and United States.
In Cuba L.AM.A is born at the end of the year 1999 when Mario Nieves (International President) visits us for the first time. L.A.M.A borne in Havana, officially in Julio the 2000, later another Chapter on Cárdena's City was created in 2006, then Santa Clara, on April 2008, and recently in Pinar del Rio City, in June 2009, then at the same in August Camagüey and Holguín Chapters were created.
At the beginnings L.A.M.A was integrated by a small group that we didn't pass of 20 people in Havana City, this due fundamentally to the impossibility of paying the costs of membership, as of the wardrobe, but at the present time and thanks to the generous help of our brothers all around the world today L.A.M.A in Cuba counts among its lines more than 200 associates.
REGULATIONS AND ACTIVITIES
L.A.M.A works and is governed by an International carefully made Regulation, and where you can read on its first pages the following:
"From the beginnings L.A.M.A. has wanted to be a tourist, apolitical and without ends of lucre Club. L.A.M.A. seeks to be the club of Motorcyclists of the XXI century.
Latin American Motorcycle Association (L.A.M.A) was created to organize recreational activities for its members, and the world of motorcycle, such as; travels, walks, camping, and other social activities for the benefit of the partners and surrounding community.
L.A.M.A will provide Vial Security to the associates and public in general through classes, orientations in the meetings, television programs, videos, shops, etc. that promote a correct and legal use of the motorcycle.
L.A.M.A. International it will act as the directive official body for the Mototurismo Sport.
Although L.A.M.A. it is not a charitable organization and our mission is in the bike-sport, as an integral part of our respective communities, it is expected that the different chapters of L.A.M.A. organize charitable events for the less fortunate ones. These can be achieved through campaigns of: collection of toys, food, blood donation, and many other activities."
L.A.M.A in Cuba has not been unaware to anything of this, and as in many countries, in Cuba we have also made our social nature activities, like toys donations to Hospitals where there are rooms with sick children with Cancer. From the end of the year 2009 we are worked together with the” Independent Project Acualina"(in City of Havana) and CITMA in others provinces of the country, and we have made a group activities picking up garbage on the coast as a part of the campaign "Saves your Piece of our Planet "
We participate in an active way in all the activities organized by the local, municipal and provincial governments where we are summoned.
L.A.M.A make every year, and in each country a National Rally where all the partners meet and share like a big family, exposing approaches and ideas at the same time to improve the acting of the association. On the other hand L.A.M.A International makes an International Rally annually in a different country.
